Casa Iglesia

Erected in 1924 as the hallowed home of the First Christian Church, this architectural landmark stands as a timeless testament to a heritage dating back to 1888. In June 2026, its magnificent doors swung open to a new chapter, welcoming travelers eager to immerse themselves in the coastal allure of Santa Barbara. Now known as Casa Iglesia, the estate strikes a sublime balance between eras—faithfully preserving its historic soul on the outside while unveiling a world of curated luxury and seamless high-tech sophistication within.

Featuring a combination of 37 accommodation types, including Studios, Loft Apartments, and two-bedroom Apartments. In a masterstroke of design, a portion of the original roof was removed to unveil a central, open-air atrium. This shared guest sanctuary is filled with lush, curated greenery, offering guests a serene escape under the California sky.

We really enjoyed our stay at casa iglesia. It was clean, quiet, beautiful, great for walking and happy we could bring our dog. Their customer service via text is outstanding.

A Beautiful, Private Alternative to a Traditional Hotel I absolutely loved my stay at Casa Iglesias and will definitely be back. This is not a traditional hotel—and that is exactly what I liked about it. Casa Iglesias appears to be a beautifully renovated former church, now converted into approximately 30 private studios and loft-style accommodations spread across three floors. There is no traditional lobby or front desk. Instead, each unit has its own smart keypad, and you receive your access code before arrival. The whole experience feels incredibly private, easy, and seamless. I stayed in a studio on the third floor, and the room was exceptionally comfortable. Everything feels brand new, from the sheets and towels to the TV, electric kettle, espresso machine, and furniture. The design is sleek, minimalist, and very tasteful, with a huge bed, a comfortable bench, a table and two chairs, and plenty of space even with luggage. There is also a small closet, hair dryer, iron and ironing board, and quality toiletries. The kitchenette was one of my favorite features. My studio had a sink, dishes, glasses, silverware, an electric kettle, espresso machine, dish soap and sponge, a half-size refrigerator, and a small convection microwave. There was also filtered water directly in the unit, which I really appreciated. Being able to bring my own food, store it in the refrigerator, and heat it up was incredibly convenient. The bathroom is spacious, modern, and spotless, and everything feels fresh and new. It also has a Japanese-style toilet with a heated seat and built-in bidet, which was a particularly nice touch. We also slept extremely well. The curtains block most of the daylight, and the property itself was exceptionally quiet. They have thought of so many little details. Coffee and tea, sugar and Stevia, coffee creamer, and even Kirkland popcorn are provided. There is a sound machine available if you like sleeping with white noise, although I didn’t need it because the property was exceptionally quiet. They even provide little wipes for your feet after being at the beach—a very thoughtful touch if you’ve been swimming or walking around Santa Barbara. Another thing I loved was the privacy. Because this is such a small property, you never feel like you’re staying at a busy hotel. The only real common area is the beautiful atrium, with a Spanish-style open patio on the third floor. Up another flight of stairs is a gorgeous covered terrace/balcony area where you could easily have breakfast, sit with your coffee, or just enjoy the space. The large palm planters and minimalist design make the whole property feel incredibly peaceful and thoughtfully designed. The parking situation is also fantastic. Because it’s a small property, you can park and enter through the door closest to your room, so you’re basically from your car to your room in about three minutes. No giant parking garage, long hallways, elevators, or trek through a huge hotel. There is no daily housekeeping, which was completely fine with me. I don’t need someone coming into my room every day to make my bed, and I actually preferred having the privacy. Whenever I needed something, I simply sent a text message and received a response shortly afterward. I requested additional coffee pods during my stay, and it was handled quickly and easily. Casa Iglesias is a great example of how a property can provide a more comfortable experience by doing things differently. If you prefer a traditional hotel with a lobby, front desk, and daily housekeeping, this may not be your style. But if you value privacy, independence, beautiful design, convenience, and a quiet place that feels more like your own studio than a hotel room, I highly recommend it. I felt completely comfortable throughout my stay and honestly prefer this model to a traditional hotel. Everything was tasteful, thoughtfully designed, and exceptionally well maintained. Five stars. I will absolutely be staying here again.

We had a great stay at Casa Iglesia. We were very impressed with the room, the location, and the quiet atmosphere. The completely remote check-in process took some getting used to (we had no idea the white badge-reader style boxes next to the door were actually keypads!) but once we figured it out it was totally fine. We were reminded a few times about our check-out time (maybe 1 too many times?) but it was easy enough to ignore since we had reservations early on the day of check-out. We'll definitely consider Casa Iglesia next time we visit Santa Barbara. It was a well-maintained building with a great atmosphere (including the atrium).

This place is wonderful. The rooms and spacious and clean. The upgraded toilets are plus! The Tesla chargers a HUGE plus as well, charging while sleeping is the best. The only thing is I wish there were more lights in the parking lot as I have arrived at night time

Casa Iglesia 309 provided a calm, quiet stay. There was ample parking, easy delivery of key codes and my room was quite quiet. The open patio is a nice touch, and I plan to use in the future for bringing my own food or bringing take out back to the Casa Iglesia. The bed was comforable and lighting was lovely. I am very happy to have finally had an opportunity to try the fancy toilet! The whole stay was delightful.

Wonderful stay on the less-busy downtown Santa Barbara side. While there’s no typical hotel concierge on-site and it feels somewhere in between an airbnb and hotel, every detail is thoughtfully planned that nothing is left to be desired (although if anything were needed, it would just be a text away). From the sound machine, brand new and good quality design and furniture, all the great amenities, microwave/fridge/ coffee/tea/kettle/dishes and cutlery/creamer etc, safe in the room, bidet toilet and all the other usual hotel items, I can’t imagine what else would be needed. The free and ample parking (and multiple electric car chargers throughout the lot) and it being two blocks away from the Daily Grind are icing on the cake. Also, the outdoor covered/uncovered area is a nice oasis. While I wouldn’t recommend it for extremely technologically challenged people (it’s not difficult, but I can see older people struggling with the texting/email communication, room lock keypad, and not having an on-site contact) this place is great for anyone wanting a nice getaway or workcation, without the fuss of a hotel staff. There are also multiple layouts, so while our room did not include an oven/stovetop, we peeked into another room that did, so I can absolutely see this as a great spot for an extended stay for anyone wanting to be able to cook. This would also be a great place to get a block at/fully rent out for wedding weekends/other gatherings.
